Beautiful Exhibits

Vibrant heritage

Peranakan heritage tells the story of adaptation. In Malay, Peranakan heritage refers to locally born as well as descendants of foreign settlers who married local Southeast Asian women centuries ago. The Peranakan community in Singapore is usually Peranakan Chinese. These are the descendants of Chinese settlers who lived in bustling ports of Singapore and Penang in 19th century.

Well-preserved Neoclassical structures

As discussed earlier, the museum is located in an old school. It is today a National Monument. Earlier it was Tao Nan School which h was built in the year 1912. It was set up in Straits Settlements and was the first Hokkien modern school of its kind. The layout of the building is based on bungalows located on Straits Settlements. Here, rooms are placed across a central hall and kitchens and toilets are placed outside the building.

  1. Location of Peranakan Museum is 39 Armenian Street, near Fort Canning Park, Singapore.
  2. It is located only 10 minutes of walking distance from Bras Basah and City Hall MRT Stations as well as several public bus lines.
  3. Timings are 10am to 7pm daily and 10am to 9pm on Fridays.
  4. Entry for adults is $6 and family is $18.
